1.   Summary

This product bulletin is intended to announce the availability of SnapDrive 5.0 for Windows for First Customer Ship.

SnapDrive is a server-based software solution that provides advanced storage virtualization and management capabilities for Microsoft® Windows environments. It is tightly integrated with the Microsoft NTFS file system and provides a layer of abstraction between application data and physical storage associated with that data.

SnapDrive 5.0 for Windows runs on a Windows Server 2003 and complements native NTFS volume management with virtualization capabilities. It enables administrators to easily create LUNs from pools of storage that can be distributed among several storage appliances.

2.   What’s New?

SnapDrive 5.0 for Windows introduces the following new capabilities:

·         Support for SnapVault® integration (backup only)

·         Support for LUNs greater than 2TB (GPT partitions)

·         Support for volume-based SnapRestore®—Improves performance

·         Support for Space Reclaimer for Windows—Better storage utilization

·         Support for thin provisioning of LUNs

o        SnapDrive honors storage system-based settings for thin provisioning of LUNs, but does not monitor these LUNs for space availability.

SnapDrive 5.0 software does not support the following:

·         VMware in Guest OS in FCP environment

·         VMware in Guest OS with iSCSI HBA
